--------------------------------------------------------------------- NORFOLK
LEAGUE: toon rejects v White Riot, Saturday 4th September
2008. --------------------------------------------------------------------- First
it was the Ash Samba Boyz, then HM Gunners and now with just 2 games to go
the Norfolk League title race enters another in the sequence of knockout
games where the loser faces elimination from the race to be champions.
This time its toon rejects and defending champions White Riot fighting to
stay alive, both realistically needing to win if they are going to prize
the title away from leaders Dutch Warriors.
THIS
SEASON--------------------------------------------------- Another
excellent season for the rejects under the guidance of manager Murray
Parsons. Last season they won Division 1 and reached the league cup final.
This season their quest for cup glory may be over, but back-to-back wins
in their final two games will see them become the 3rd side in the last 4
seasons to clinch the title in their first season at this level. There's
no question their foundation has been built on the fortress that is castle
park. The rejects are unbeaten at home since August 2007. They've already
shown this season that they deserve to be mixing it with the big guns.
Victories over Dutch Warriors, HM Gunners and Hotshots show they certainly
have a strong pedigree - can they add the name of White Riot to that
list?
For White Riot, history still beckons. No side have ever won
all 3 competitions in the same season. Dutch Warriors, New Field Rangers
and the Riot themselves have all done a "double" but with the trophy
already in the bag and a final against Dutch Warriors to come on Wednesday
- the dream is still very much alive. Unusually, the league looks the
toughest ask for them at the moment. In reality, they must win this clash
and hope the rejects can beat the Warriors away from home in the final
game - tough but not impossible. Away form has proved a rare Achilles heal
for Andrew Saunders men
though.
