HALL OF FAME - HISTORY

SEASON 6

*****************Sixth Season***********************
Division Two was reduced to 7 teams as in came AFC Trotters, Pirates, AFC Mitchell (who became Kingsway United) whilst Combine Harvester became Hoole Athletic and then Linden Rovers under new management. Out went Athletico Redhill, FC Rodriguez, Emu Warriors and Mighty Ducks. The format of the league and cup remained the same.
----------------------Norfolk league--------------------------
White Riot mounted a successful defence of their title after challenges from Dutch Warriors and laterly Hotshots failed. The relegation battle was again extremely open with 5 teams involved for most of the season. Eventually HM Gunners pulled clear, and with a game to go the Samba Boyz secured their status with a win over Blut Royale (who also stayed up after results elsewhere went their way).
----------------------Division One--------------------------
Come the last day of the season it was yet again Division One that enthrawled all with another promotion battle going down to the wire. Newly promoted Toon Rejects had set the league alight after recovering from an oppening day defeat at Norfolk, they went on an incredable 21-game unbeatted run in all competitions. That run was ended on the penaultimate day with defeat at Smallville, but results elsewhere confirmed their promtion and the Division One title. Behind them, Norfolk Enchants and Shawfield Park Rangers led the batle for the 2nd spot occupying 2 of the top 3 positions but Wislon and Dros Delnoch were always in the running. Smallville also joined the race in the closing weeks after an excellent run of results. In the end Norfolk began the final day 1 point ahead of Shawfield, 2 ahead of Smallville and Wislon however they faced the toughest task - away to the rejects. Their defeat effectively meant the winner of the Shawfield-Smallville game would clinch promotion - Shawfield did so with an enfatic 4-1 victory reagining their spot in the Norfolk league after a 3 season absence - ironically thwarting his brothers again in an almost identical situation to that in Season 1 (the last time Shawfield gained promotion).

The relegation battle was more clear cut, New Field Rangers and Rubber Dubbers were cast adrift very early and although Chris Kehoe's men were able to gather a respectable points total, they were both condemed to Divison Two football for the first time.

----------------------Division Two--------------------------
As the 3 new sides and Linden Rovers under new management gained experience and laid the foundations for their sides, the promotion race turned into a 3-way battle between the experienced sides - Car Fax, Norfolk And Chance and N.Y.Muggers. The Muggers set the early pace but suffered an alarming dip in form that left them 3rd going into the final day. Norfolk And Chance just needed a point to win the title and did so with an emphatic 6-0 win over pirates. The Muggers had to win otherwise Car Fax (who wern't playing) would take second spot. The Muggers did manage to secure a 3-0 win at Kingsway though to gain their first ever promotion at the 4th attempt.

----------------------Norfolk League Cup-------------------
Ash Samba Boyz claimed their first league cup with a dramatic comeback in the final. Division One side Toon Rejects had led 2-0 with 10 minutes to go but goals from Birghtwell, Makanaki and Gattuso secured an amazing comeback after extra time. The comeback was matched earlier in the tournament as they came back from the dead in the 2nd round against Norfolk And Chance. They lost the
first leg 2-0 away from home but managed to win the 2nd leg 3-0 to progress.

There were a number of contenders for tie of the round. The Samba Boyz 5-4 aggregate win over Wislon, but the honour went to Dinot Riders' 9-5 aggregate win in the quarter-finals which ended Car Fax's defence of the Trophy.

----------------------Norfolk Trohpy--------------------------
White Riot gained their first cup success defeating Division one side Wilson F.C. in the final 2-1. In fact, White Riot won all their 5 matches by the same scoreline! Game of the tournament was probably the quarter-final between Toon Rejects and Dinot Riders which finished 3-3 - the Ridrs progressing on penalties.
