Late show saves Shawfield

HOTSHOTS 1-1 SHAWFIELD REBORN

A 93rd minute goal from midfielder Alf Law secured the draw that was enough to save Shawfield from relegation and condemn their opponents Hotshots to a spell in Division One next season.

The maths were simple before kick off - The one remaining relegation spot would be filled by one of these two sides, and their meeting on the final day of the season would decide which one. Defeat for either would send them down, whilst a draw would end Shawfield's brief spell back in the top flight.

The game was a tight affair with both sides knowing there was a huge price at stake. The visitors struck first on 13 minutes as striker Martyn Lines chose a good moment to strike his 4th goal of the season after good work from Austin Kewell.

Hotshots then managed to repel Shawfield's attacks with keeper Ricky Langley so often the quickest to react in the area to prevent chances being created. However, just as the game appeared to be over, Shawfield's all time leader appearance maker was on hand to head in Viktor Lindekrantz's cross in the 3rd minute of injury time to equalise.

Hotshots had no time to respond and it is they who suffered the heartbrake of releagation, ending a 6 season spell in the top division.
