Warriors suffer last minute
title agony
A
90th minute goal from
toon rejects defender
Itay
Seviliya shattered the title dreams of
Dutch Warriors and
handed the Norfolk league
crown to White Riot for the 3rd season
running
in remarkable circumstances.
Going into the last
round of games it seemed the Warriors were
destined to win their
first title since season
4 and break the Riot stranglehold
on the
trophy. The Riot had produced an excellent away win at
toon rejects ending their unbeaten home run
stretching back 13
months but the Warriors
still entered the final day with a 3 point
advantage and had the cushion of a 3 goal
advantage on goal
difference. White Riot had
the relatively easy task of disposing of
Shawfield who hadn't won in the league since
the opening day of the
season. The Warriors
had a tougher task, at home to toon rejects,
themselves fighting for 3rd
spot.
However, things started
going
wrong for Braindead's men from the outset. Before half time
they had already lost Almen, Tammer and Sharro
to injury although
their goal hadn't looked
under threat at any point from the visitors
and a point is all they needed. At half time
the Riot led 1-0 thanks to Rowly Mills. That lead was doubled
through El Barto on 55 minutes - however they were unable to force
another break through.
With just 17
minutes remaining, veteran midfielder Daniel Carling turned the
title race on its head by headering home Fletcher's corner. The two
sides were now locked on points, goal difference and goals scored
with only Dutch Warriors superior head to head record keeping them
ahead of the Riot.
Then in injury time Seviliya struck,
handing the title to the Riot by 1 goal on goal
